March kicks off Read Across America and March 2 is Read Across America Day. Keeping with the theme of “Celebrating a Nation of Diverse Readers”, AEA is continuing their Gift of Reading program. The AEA Reading Fairy Godmother, President Carol Flemings, came to visit PES today. She read the book “Freedom Soup” to Mrs. Thompson’s kindergarten class. Each kindergarten student received the book “Pete the Cat - Pete at the Beach” by James Dean. During her visit, Ms. Flemings donated eleven books to the Prescott Elementary library.
The Prescott School District will have someone from the community come read to a kindergarten class each Wednesday during the month of March. On this day, each student in that class will receive a book. By the end of the month, each kindergarten student will have received a book.

PHS teacher Trish Brown recently spoke to our school board about ongoing projects she has been working on with students and community. Mrs. Brown and PHS Counselor Jennifer Robbins took a small group of students to visit Project Search facilities in Camden. Students toured the facility and were able to see different job opportunities and resources for them to pursue after graduation. Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Robbins also enjoyed visiting with a recent PHS graduate Kyron Johnson, who is successfully learning job skills to further his future in Camden through Project Search.
Mrs. Brown also informed the school board of other ongoing projects. She is working with local organizations to bring aide and opportunity to parents and students during parent teacher conferences in the next couple weeks.
PHS is also excited about upcoming presenters coming to speak with students.
